Hi, I'm Naphtali Frey, and I'm the church's organist. To be more specific, I'm actually the church's organist/pianist/occasional violinist/alto in the choir when the music is easy enough that I can manage to play the accompaniment and sing alto at the same time...But it's easier to just say "organist," so let's stick with that.
I've been playing piano, and then organ, at churches since I was about 14 or 15 years old, which gives me 10+ years of experience - great for someone my age, but nothing compared to most church organists these days!
I have an Associate's degree in music, and varied experience doing everything from planning and performing solo organ concerts to playing violin in a community orchestra, teaching private music lessons to tutoring college-level music theory, playing in the pit to directing the music for musical theater productions.
Outside of music, I'm a hopeless bookworm (no, seriously, I read on average 50+ books a year at times). I love to knit and crochet (it's hard to find books that will lie open nicely so that I can knit and read at the same time, but there are some out there!). I'm also a "real food foodie" (can you say "raw milk"? How about "kombucha"?), and I love to cook, create, concoct, and ferment things in my kitchen.
So is anyone else sensing the "little old lady organist" vibe I've got going on here? I keep telling people I should have been born about 75 years ago!
